2025 Theme – Heritage of the Future
What do we do with heritage that has already become part of our history, identity, and memory – and what will we leave for the future? Which of today’s and tomorrow’s architecture and urban projects will become part of an important, forward-looking vision?
Heritage is not only a reflection of history but also a living story that evolves alongside the cultural, social, and technological context of each generation. Heritage of the Future invites us to reflect on the legacy we are creating for future generations and how our choices shape our collective identity. Heritage is always tied to how we value the traces of the past today. Which parts of history do we choose to preserve, and which remain contested? What determines why we consider some elements valuable while others are overlooked – and how does their meaning shift over time?
The theme Heritage of the Future encourages a critical examination of how we define the value and uniqueness of buildings, public spaces, and even infrastructure. It also invites a dialogue about the diverse perspectives that contribute to shaping and protecting our shared urban environment.
Over the past decade, Open House Vilnius has become an integral part of the city’s identity. For many residents, architecture has become a meaningful topic of everyday discussion. One of the festival’s goals is to create opportunities for community gathering and dialogue around relevant architectural topics.
Open House Vilnius is now a platform for discussing high-quality architecture. During this year’s festival, we invite you to discover what architectural heritage tells us about our past, present, and future.
