During the Open Architecture Weekend, visitors are invited to experience dance architecture and see how the city is being created by a generation of young artists. Students from the Ballet Department of the M.K.Čiurlionis School of Art’s Contemporary Dance Programme have created a site-specific dance performance called “Young City” for the Open House Vilnius anniversary event.

The performance explores the relationship between human beings and the urban environment they create. The movements of the body tell the story of the influence of different cultures and relationships on the transformation of the city. The performance grows and changes dynamically to show the constant change and pulsation of the surrounding environment. The work evolves from the movements of single individuals into an organic complex whole, thus emphasising the importance of the community in ensuring a sustainable urban development process.

We are all human beings who create the city – young developers are no exception. The artistic narrative therefore aims to show the importance of the participation of different groups of society in the creation of free, open, welcoming and friendly spaces.
