Residential house in Žvėrynas

About
Behind one of the 20th century modernist villas in Žvėrynas, there is a house with a new expression, which is a distinctive addition to the context of the wooden architecture of this district.
The first building project on the land plot in Traidenio Street dates back to 1935, with a two-storey wooden villa in the middle of the land plot and a staff building at the rear. The villa itself has remained almost unchanged since then, but the house in the depths of the land plot has gone through several phases of change. At first, the building’s purpose was changed to residential, followed by the addition of a second floor, and the most recent renovation saw the construction of a house that showcases CLT structures and the possibilities of modern wooden architecture.
The main idea behind the project was to create an architecture that not only has lasting value for its owners, but also survives as a valuable part of the urban fabric. The essential material, wood, continues the architectural note set by the façades in the interior, where empty decorations are abandoned in favour of the expression of uncoated structures.
The end result is striking in its expression of modest luxury, its bold solutions that are atypical for a residential function and its incredible attention to detail.
