Residential Block “Rasų Namai”

About

“Rasų namai” is a remarkable neighborhood of 18 private residential houses nestled in nature near Pavilniai Regional Park. These modern, unified architectural houses are imbued with local traditions and symbols, with a particular emphasis on harmony with the environment and local values.

Each house in this neighborhood was considered individually, resulting in subtle differences between them – some stand on the ground, while others are elevated on “chicken legs”. The houses located on the higher part of the territory are raised on columns to “catch the sun”, not touch the historical walls of the ammunition storage facilities, and not conflict with the lower houses that have courtyards by the stream.

The facades are decorated with wooden planks, with carved patterns created for each house individually – vertically, horizontally, diagonally, in a so-called “sun” pattern. The aim is to supplement and enliven the common form of the archetypal traditional silhouette with moderate contemporary details and elements. The street perspective is not “closed” by the buildings but opens up to the Ribiškis Landscape Reserve valley.

Until now, the exceptional charm of the neighborhood has been given by the ammunition storage facilities that have remained on the hillside slopes since the interwar period, which the project developers have restored and adapted for use.
