Cultural Complex SODAS 2123
About
The Cultural Complex SODAS 2123 is a community-driven and self-governed space initiated and curated by the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association (LTMKS). It brings together a diverse range of residents, from individual artists to interdisciplinary organizations.
The building complex was constructed in different periods. In the early 20th century, a modern settlement called Rasų Colony was established on this site. The first building of the complex was built at that time, which housed an orphanage. Since 2019, the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association has been based here.
Modernity of the complex is created not only by specific physical elements but also by the concept of their use. SODAS 2123 incorporates details with their own histories and burdens, creating a new layer that dialogues with the old.
In the building’s exterior and interior spaces, furniture is collected from different objects borrowed from the city of Vilnius: elements of Gediminas Avenue pavement, columns and granite steps from the former Trade Union Palace, and city tree gratings.
The current establishment of the cultural complex in Rasų Colony has brought more life to the area: art events held in the complex attract visitors, and its courtyard has become a public space for both local residents and other townspeople.
