State Data Agency

About

The State Data Agency building is a blend of several architectural styles – Modernism and Classicism – seamlessly merging inside the building.

Gediminas Avenue 29 was built at the beginning of the 20th century and was considered one of the two tallest rental buildings in Vilnius at that time. Gediminas Avenue 31, a computing center added in the 1980s, is a true reflection of Modernism. These two completely different buildings, contrasting with each other, together create a harmonious structure of symmetrical vertical facades.

In the courtyard of the building, in a risalit tower, there is an authentic Neo-Gothic marble staircase that constantly attracts filmmakers and advertisers. Inside, a unique spiral staircase is decorated with white marble and covered with Gothic vaults. In the center of the staircase, there is an authentically constructed elevator, inviting visitors to feel like the nobles, hotel guests, or bank clients who lived here in 1914. In addition, the building’s spaces are adorned with exceptional stained glass windows created by Steponas Kazimieraitis, made of opalescent glass.

Over more than a century, the building has changed its purpose several times: it was a hotel, a branch of the Polish Cooperative Bank operated here, and it was the headquarters of the Lithuanian Activists’ Front, until it finally became the headquarters of the State Data Agency.
