About
• Tech Park is located in the Sapiega Palace Park which is one of the oldest in Vilnius. Together with the palace, it composes a highly original Baroque urban complex;• In 1808, the complex was bought by the Tsarist city administration and a military hospital was installed in the Sapiega Palace. It was the first hospital in Lithuania to employ specially trained physicians. Since 1843, new hospital buildings were designed and built within the area;
• The hospital was reconstructed in the mid-19th c. New pavilions were added, which significantly changed the face of the entire area;
• Reconstruction in 2016 was geared towards technology start-ups. Many of them already had offices in the defunct hospital’s buildings;
• The structure of the complex was preserved by adapting the hospital buildings for startups. The only completely new building is a conference hall extension that stands in the very center of the complex;
• We will reveal to the participants of our tour what challenges the architects faced during the reconstruction and what corrections had to be made when authentic details of the buildings were discovered by the construction workers.
