• The building housing VU’s School of Medicine had served various purposes through the years;
• Up until 1864, the building contained the St. James Military Hospital. From 1864-1915, it was occupied by the Juncker School, an elite military school of the Russian Empire. The VU School of Medicine was established in the building in 1919;
• Construction of the Anatomy Building was completed in 1934. Not only construction workers, but students and the Dean of the VU School of Medicine all worked alongside to complete it;
• In 1931, the remains of royals Barbora Radvilaitė, Elžbieta Habsburgaitė and Aleksandras Jogailaitis that had been found in the crypt of the Vilnius Cathedral, were sent to the VU School of Medicine for research;
• The building was fitted out with innovations of the time: central heating and oscillating fans. There was an electric elevator and a crematorium.
