OFFICE BUILDING OF COOPERATIVE UNION OF LITHUANIA

About
The working spaces in the administrative building of the Lithuanian Cooperative Union have not changed since 1986;
The example of late modernism – the undulating facade – embedded in the expressive architecture of Gediminas Avenue hides not only the functionality of the premises, but also the exclusive interior elements and the search for national identity;
The interior is decorated with works of art: a stained glass piece “City by the River” by A. Dovydėnas, a fresco “Autumn Goods” by A. Kmieliauskas and a sculptural ceramic composition by N. Dovydėnienė;
This building is the Soviet equivalent of modern offices: it resembles a ship, which reveals the architect’s priority: the well-being of the working person, and on the upper floors – the desire to see more widely;
If not for the perseverance of the architect Justinas Šeibokas, the administrative building of the Lithuanian Union of Cooperatives could have only remained a vision, because the urban requirements of the city at that time contradicted the emergence of this building.
